A cigar is one of the best gifts you can give a cigar enthusiast — and one of the easiest to get wrong. Grab the wrong brand, the wrong wrapper, the wrong strength, and you’ve handed your father-in-law a $40 stick he’ll never smoke.
Skip the guessing. Tell Paired who it’s for and what they like — get three matched picks with the reasoning behind each.

Cigars are personal — more like coffee or whiskey than like a bottle of wine everyone enjoys the same way. Before you buy anything, find out one thing: does the recipient prefer mild, medium, or full-bodied cigars? That single answer eliminates most of the ways a cigar gift goes wrong, and it’s a question almost anyone can answer about themselves, even if they can’t name a single brand.
Strength level: Medium to full, since this is usually an experienced smoker. Price range: $15–$40 per cigar. Try: Padrón 1964 Anniversary, Arturo Fuente Hemingway, Rocky Patel Vintage 1992.
Strength level: Medium, crowd-friendly. Price range: $8–$15 per cigar (often bought in bulk). Try: Romeo y Julieta 1875, Macanudo Café, Perdomo Reserve.
Strength level: Mild to medium, safe for a broad range of palates. Price range: $10–$25 per cigar. Try: Ashton Classic, Montecristo White, Oliva Connecticut Reserve.
Strength level: Mixed — a sampler covering mild through full. Price range: $50–$150 per box. Try: Perdomo Reserve sampler, Rocky Patel sampler, Oliva Variety Pack.
Under $20 (single cigar): Macanudo Café, Ashton Classic, Oliva Connecticut Reserve.
$20–$50 (3-pack or sampler): Rocky Patel sampler, Oliva Master Blends 3-pack, Perdomo Reserve sampler.
$50–$100 (5-pack or humidor starter): Padrón Family Reserve 5-pack, Arturo Fuente OpusX 5-pack.
$100+ (premium experience): Liga Privada T52 box, Davidoff Winston Churchill box, Padrón 1926 sampler.

Ask Paired →Stick with mild to medium-bodied, well-known cigars like Macanudo Café or Ashton Classic — approachable enough that an occasional smoker will enjoy them without needing much experience.
Only if you also fill it with cigars, or the recipient already smokes regularly enough to need one. An empty humidor is a maintenance obligation, not a treat.
A 3-pack or sampler in the $20–$50 range, such as a Rocky Patel sampler or Oliva Master Blends 3-pack, gives the recipient variety without requiring you to guess their exact preference.
Generally no, unless the recipient has specifically mentioned liking flavored cigars. Most serious cigar smokers view infused cigars as a novelty rather than a genuine gift.
Ask directly if you can, or check what they usually reach for. If you can’t ask, describe what you know about them to Paired and let it match a strength and flavor profile for you.
