Privacy Policy
Paired (pairedcigars.com) is operated by Second Mouse, LLC ("Paired," "we," "us"). This policy describes what data we collect, why, and what we don't do with it. We've tried to write it in plain language.
The short version
- We do not require accounts. We do not ask for your name, email, or address.
- We collect anonymous analytics about cigar queries and clicks so the recommender can improve. No personal identifiers.
- We set a single cookie to remember that you confirmed you are 21+ years old.
- We do not sell or share your data. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.
- When you click a "Buy" link, you leave Paired and enter the retailer's site, which has its own privacy policy.
1. Data we collect
When you use Paired, we record the following in an anonymous analytics database:
- Your query (e.g. "bourbon" or "Padron 1964") — so we can measure which questions the engine handles well.
- The cigars we recommended in response — so we can measure recommendation quality.
- Which "Buy" links you click, and the source page they came from — so we can attribute affiliate revenue and improve recommendations.
- An anonymous session ID, randomly generated in your browser and stored in your browser only — so we can group your activity within a single visit. It is not tied to your identity in any way.
We do not collect your name, email address, IP address (beyond what Cloudflare uses for routing and abuse prevention), browser fingerprint, geolocation, or any other personally identifying information.
2. Cookies and local storage
Paired uses a small number of first-party cookies and local-storage items:
paired_age_ok— a cookie set when you confirm you are 21 or older. Expires after 400 days. Used only to avoid asking again.- A session ID in your browser's local storage — described above.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or cross-site trackers.
3. Affiliate links and outbound clicks
Paired is supported by affiliate commissions. When you click a "Buy" link, we may pass a tag that identifies Paired as the source of the referral so the retailer can credit us if you make a purchase. This tag identifies the recommendation, not you. Once you leave Paired, the retailer's privacy policy applies. See our Terms of Service for the affiliate disclosure.
4. Age requirement
Paired is intended for adult cigar enthusiasts aged 21 or older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 21. If you are under 21, please do not use Paired.
5. Data retention
Anonymous query and click logs are retained for as long as they are useful for product improvement and revenue reconciliation, typically up to 24 months, after which they are aggregated into statistics and the raw rows may be deleted.
6. Third-party services we use
- Cloudflare hosts the site, handles DNS, and provides bot protection. Cloudflare may log routing-level information such as IP addresses for security purposes; see Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- OpenAI processes your query text to help generate recommendations. We send only the query and a short list of candidate cigars; we do not send any identifying information. See OpenAI's privacy policy.
7. Your rights
Because we do not collect personally identifying data, we have no way to look up "your" records on request. If you have questions about this policy or want to ask whether anything has been logged about a specific session, contact us at the email below and we'll do our best to help.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted at the top of the page along with a new "Last updated" date.
